Community Involvement

Tim Burns sincerely believes that the quality of the community you live in directly corresponds to work and investment you contribute into it.  He has been an active volunteer and elected official over the years supporting Oakland County communities.  The Clawson-Troy Elks Lodge named him “Distinguished Citizen of the Year” in 2011 for his contributions in the community.

Tim served as an Oakland County Commissioner from 2007 – 2010 representing the cities of Clawson and Troy.  During his term in office, Tim Burns was regularly referred to by colleagues, members of the press, and constituents as “the hardest working County Commissioner” and was respected for his advocacy of promoting more equity in county services provided to the taxpayers in the cities he represented. County Commissioners are responsible for an annual budget of approximately $800 million dollars and government assets exceeding $1 billion dollars.  County Commissioners review and approve Oakland County’s human resources, departmental operations, and facility management decisions.

Tim Burns has served on the Executive Board and as past-President of the Troy Community Coalition for the Prevention of Alcohol & Drug Abuse.  The Troy Community Coalition  is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for all who live or work in Troy, by promoting a lifestyle free from the abuse of alcohol and drugs.

Tim has also been a strong supporter of the Boys & Girls Club of Troy which provides educational, recreational, mentoring, and life-skill training programs to children and teens who live in Clawson, Madison Heights, Rochester Hills, Sterling Heights, Troy, and other local communities.  He has served for several years on the Boys & Girls Club’s Fundraising Committee to assist the club.

Tim is known for serving chili dogs at the park  for the Clawson Optimist Club’s annual Coney Day fundraiser during the City’s Fourth of July weekend festivities and judges the club’s Youth Oratory Contest each year.  He has also served on the Board of Directors for both the Clawson Chamber of Commerce and Clawson Community Credit Union and on the Planning Commission for the City of Clawson. The Law Office of Timothy J Burns has been a long-time sponsor of the Clawson Lions Club’s annual “Down on Main Street” car show fundraiser.

Tim Burns also initiated the idea and started the Claws & Paws Dog Jog which has become an annual Clawson tradition benefiting the charity Guardians for Animals and the local Chamber of Commerce.  This event promotes animal wellness for pets, healthy living for pet owners, and the attactiveness of Clawson’s housing and businesses to an outside audience of participants who walk or jog a two mile course with their animals.
